After thinking about writing for several years I took a course in writing short stories from the Long Ridge Writer's Institute. My final story for that class, "This Message Contains Attachments," was published in S.C.Beginnings Magazine.
In 2005 my story "Aftermath of Fury" received Honorable Mention in the Writers Digest Annual Competition.I try to keep several stories in circulation to magazines, anthologies, and online publications. As more are accepted, trust me, I'll list them on this page. For the meantime, I'm writing more short stories and working on a novel.
The best thing that ever happened to my writing was joining a critique group. When I lived in Columbia, South Carolina I was in a chapter of the South Carolina Writers Workshop. I still keep in contact with friends I made even though I don't live there anymore. Two of my stories were recently published in their annual anthology, Catfish Stew.
A friend from the Writers Group, Hope Clark, has an excellent web site for writers called Funds for Writers.I'm a member of the Smoke City Narrators, a writers' critique group in Birmingham.
My work schedule prevents me from writing as much as I'd like to, so I write here and there as much as I can. I have completed the first drafts of three novels and have written about forty short stories.
My friends from my old writer's group in Columbia, South Carolina still assist me in finding flaws and weak spots in my stories, as do the other members of the Smoke City Narrators.
I've participated in and completed National Novel Writing Month for the past two years. It's a yearly event where participants face the challenge of writing the first draft of a novel of 50,000 words (about 175 pages) in the month of November.
I have a blog I try to update regularly. Check it out if you get a chance!
